2020 Singapore to Hong Kong Cruise – Day 16 [Hong Kong, China – Day 13 and disembarkation of cruise]

Posted on January 25, 2020February 5, 2020 by Aaron Boltman

This morning I had a quick breakfast in the buffet and disembarked the ship.

Still gloomy outside. View of Hong Kong island from the ship

I took a taxi to the hotel for only 100 HKD.

Taxis are similar to Japan

I decided to stay at the Sheraton in Kowloon as I was upgraded to a large 800 sq ft harbor view room.

The view from the hotel was so nice I had a hard time leaving. I was also waiting for the fog to clear.

I took the Star ferry across to Hong Kong island (Central)

After arriving on Hong Kong island I took the Central to mid-level escalators briefly.

The escalators… Up only. They are quite long, and I didn’t count how many there were. Still much easier than walking

I walked to Man Mo Temple. It was very nice and only a few minutes from the route to the Peak Tram.

Hong Kong’s only Man Mo Temple, built in 1847, pays tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), who were both worshipped in imperial China.

I walked to the Peak Tram station. I bought a ticket while I was at the hotel and skipped the queue for tickets, although it was fairly short. Despite reading about queuing for hours waiting for the tram it only took 10 minutes.

The tram ride was pleasant and had nice views. Luckily I sat on the right side which had the best view.

I took the escalator up to the 420 viewing terrace. The view was very good. It was not perfectly clear, but you could still see quite a bit, including the reservoir on the opposite side of Hong Kong island.

After taking a few photos I walked down to the tourist information office and got some maps. They reminded me about the circle peak hike and gave me directions.

The walk around the peak took around 45 minutes and I even saw a wild pig. The view from the other lookouts gave a different view of the island with more forest than skyscrapers.

I took the tram back down and walked to Hong Kong Park.

The aviary in the park closed shortly before I arrived. After taking the steps up to the top of the observation tower it started to rain – hard. I stayed for a bit then when it calmed down I walked to the ferry pier and took the ferry back to the hotel.

I had a bit of food and drink in the lounge at the hotel and watched the Symphony of Lights from the lounge. It wasn’t the best view, but I could still see most of it and still enjoy my drink. I didn’t go back out to explore after enjoying the lounge.
