The ship was set to arrive at 9:00 AM this morning. I got a few pictures as the ship was arriving shortly after 8 AM. The Norwegian Bliss was already docked.
Today’s port information:
Yes it is basically like a private island in the Bahamas, just in Alaska owned by the local Native Americans.
I took a couple of pictures of the pier. Not sure why they made it so long, but you could see the tide is quite low.
I bought a ticket for the Skyrider gondola to the top of the hill. With the $50 shore excursion discount it was only $17. Buying it directly at the pier it would have been $50. I realize the thing must have cost a fortune to build, but it still seems expensive for a gondola ticket.
I left the ship shortly after 9 AM. When I was walking across the pier I noticed a few people on the shore line, so I decided to walk along myself and I found some really cool colored star fish (plus barnacles and mussels).
After getting ashore I exchanged my ticket for a wristband. There was a free green gondola that took us between the two piers. It wasn’t too scenic – trees on both sides.
It was a short walk between the two gondolas. There wasn’t really a line, so I was able to go up right away.
The view at the top was nice. The entrance to the forest tram and the zip line was at the top.
Someone was bored and made some really interesting cairns.
I walked around the short hiking trail at the top. Nothing too exciting, trees, muskeg and a small lake.
I took a few more photos on the way back down since there wasn’t much to see at the top.
There was a big rock at the base with trees growing on it.
Rather than take the green gondola back I decided to walk along the nature trail. There was supposed to be an eagle’s nest, but I couldn’t find it. I did find some interesting trees, moss, lichen and mushrooms.
I walked along the shore a bit and took a photo of the ship.
These trees were interesting.
I walked over to the old cannery. They had a small museum inside, but mostly it was a tourist trap with souvenirs that cost twice as much as anywhere else in Alaska. The museum part was nice.
This cool boat was behind where there is a $5 bus to take you to the town of Hoonah.
I also walked through the small cemetery. There were some nice flowers.
I went back on the ship for a quick lunch. They had some pork today.
The weather closed in and it was no longer possible to see the top. I decided to ride up and down a few times even though the visibility was bad.
At about 5 PM the top of the mountain decided to show back up. All aboard was 5:30 PM, so not like I would have had much time.
I had dinner at Cagney’s again tonight.
I had the Caesar salad for my starter.
For my main I had the filet mignon with Yuzu Togarashi butter. For my sides I went with a baked potato and onion rings. The onion rings were good.
I left room for dessert….
I went with the warm blueberry oatmeal crisp again.
After dinner I went to “bar city” where Melvin was playing and listened to some music while enjoying some colortinis.
