Hawai’i Day 7 – Day 5 of cruise [Kona]

This morning was a good change in weather compared to yesterday afternoon. The weather in Kona was sunny and the water was very clear.

I started the day lazily because I only planned to go snorkeling. The ship had to tender, and they used the lifeboats.

I walked from the tender pier to the Mokuaikaua church, but it was closed for repairs. The Hulihe’s Palace was across the street from the church.

I took an Uber to Kahalu’u Beach Park for snorkeling. The driver was a local who said it was the best beach for snorkeling. The sand was black, but there were so many fish. There were also sea urchins in the coral, so I had to be careful.

After snorkeling (and getting sunburnt) I took an Uber back and the driver told me about a fantastic Hawaiian shaved ice place….

This place was awesome – it even had purple sweet potato ice cream and holes in the tables for the shaved ice.

I took the tender back to the ship, then attended and participated in the ribbon lei making class. I managed to complete mine in about 2 hours.

After the lei making class they had the latitudes party with alcohol, I had 2 mojitos. The party was outside, so I was able to enjoy the ship leaving Kona.

I had dinner in the main dining room.
