Today was our first day in Cape Town.
Breakfast was at 06:30.
We had a short briefing at 07:30.
We left the hotel at 08:20.
We took a scenic drive along the coast through Camps Bay to Chapman’s Peak.
We continued through Hout’s Bay to the Cape of Good Hope.
At also visited the old Cape Point lighthouse (I hiked instead of taking the funicular). It was only a 15 minute hike, the view was wonderful.
While we were driving to Cape Point we saw a few Eland (large antelope) and while leaving we saw some other antelope that only exist there. We also saw a family of baboons along the road while on our way to lunch.
We had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant called Seaforth. They served us a nice piece of fish and a small desert.
We then walked to Boulders beach to see the penguin colony.
After seeing the penguins we visited Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. It was quite an amazing place even though we had to deal with a slight drizzle of rain. I am sure it would be even better on a clear day.
We returned to the hotel at around 18:00 (6 PM)
We were to leave for dinner at 18:45 from the lobby. I walked to the Spar (grocery store) and got some cash from the cash machine. I found one with no service fee…. I stopped in the home & hardware store and got an adapter for South Africa for 20 Rand….. much better than the 130 Rand they wanted to charge me in the airport.
We had a wonderful dinner at a place called Beluga which was located behind the hotel. I had beef carpaccio, which wasn’t shaved as thin as usual, but was still good. For my main I had the sous vide chicken. It was tender and delicious. For desert I had creme brulee.
