We left the river cruise boat in Fengdu at around 08:00 and took the bus to Chongqing. The first stop was for lunch once we arrived in Chongqing and then we had a bit of free time where I took out $ from the ATM and we visited a nice square where the 3 gorges museum is located. We could see how dramatically low the river was in Chongqing – it looked like you could almost walk across it. They lower the level before the rainy season to make room for the flood waters.
We then went to the Chongqing Zoo. We saw several pandas eating their lunch. We were told they are fed 3 times a day and the bamboo has to be fresh or they won’t eat. All the pandas have separate enclosures, because they don’t usually socialize with each other. There were baby pandas, but we didn’t get to see them.
Below are a few photos of the pandas eating….
After the zoo we went to an ancient town area called Ciqikou which is a very touristic area. It was an interesting area with a lot of little shops.
We checked into the hotel – Radisson Blu and had dinner. Pictures below are from the room at the Radisson Blu.
After dinner a few of us went back to the ancient town area by taxi – it was 16 yuan (a little over $2). We thought we were going someplace else, but there was mass confusion when we got in the taxis. At least we all wound up in the same place. It was nice to see the pagoda lit up at night.
Tomorrow we will fly to Shanghai, the last stop in our tour of China.
