Today I started by leaving a bag behind at the hotel. I didn’t feel the need to carry my work boots and Nomex around Japan. After checking out of the hotel I walked across the street to the Shinagawa train station. I bought the most expensive train ticket I have ever bought in my life….. over 19,000 Yen – which is about $168.
We took the streetcar to the hotel from the train station after purchasing the required ICOCA cards. The hotel isn’t spectacular, but was only $70.45 including tax and adjacent to the Hiroshima Peace Museum. Even the Hiroshima Castle was within walking distance.
I immediately went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. It was amazing the amount of damage one very small (compared to today’s versions) bomb did.

The picture above is the Bell of Peace. They allow you to ring it. The outer part of the bell has a pattern of the earth on it.
You can still see the heat shadows on the building. The explosion was almost directly above this building.
I found a parking tower with the car ferris wheel!

For dinner I had the traditional okonomiyaki. It was an experience.
An interesting snack. They taste like chocolate covered corn puffs
