I embarked once again to Doha from Abu Dhabi. Oman Air has gotten smarter and now flies a much larger plane between Muscat and Doha. The plane on the tarmac got a bit warm. I managed to make it to Doha without any problem. I’m staying at the Marriott Marquis City Center. They upgraded…

Houston to Abu Dhabi [via Amsterdam on KLM]
Today I return to Abu Dhabi via Amsterdam on KLM’s new 787-9. They used to use the Queen of the Skies (747) on the Houston to Amsterdam route. Progress is not always a good thing. The benefit of the 787 for passengers is higher cabin pressure and humidity. Obviously the airlines like the fuel efficiency…
Overnight in Doha, Qatar
My very long day started in the desert at 6:15 AM. We started driving to Muscat at 10:00. I arrived at the airport shortly after 2:00 PM. I had hoped to change my flight from 10:10 PM to 5:35 PM, but despite 3 attempts I failed and spent 8 hours in the airport. Still seemingly…
Houston to Oman via Qatar
I’m flying to Oman on Qatar Airways tonight. I enjoy flying Qatar Airways, their 777 has the best seating arrangement of all the airlines I’ve flown (2-2-2) and they give you pajamas to wear while sleeping. It’s amazing how much fresher you feel when you aren’t in the same clothes for 24 hours. …
Arrival in San Diego, California
I arrived shortly after 11 PM in San Diego. Luckily I was able to redeem my upgrade on United so I wasn’t stuck in a middle seat in economy for the 3.5 hour flight from Houston. I’m staying at the Residence Inn Downtown San Diego. It isn’t as fancy as the price would suggest….
Visiting the states
Technically I will be in 3 countries today….Oman, UAE and USA. I’m flying to Abu Dhabi today from Oman. It is only a 1 hour flight. Then I am going to the US Embassy to a second passport. I visited the US Embassy…. It took all of 15 minutes to be…
Leaving Doha, Qatar
I had lunch at the Italian restaurant inside hotel since it is Ramadan and there is no good available outside of hotels. They made me a special dessert. I then flew to Muscat, Oman
Dubai via London
I am on a very late flight to London (British Airways) that leaves at 10:25 PM. I’ll have 8 hours in London (not ideal, but long enough to have some sort of adventure, even though it will be snowing. I’ll eventually arrive in Dubai… To add to the mystery of airfares the same flights…
Stockholm, Sweden to Bologna, Italy via Amsterdam on KLM
It was so cold overnight that some of the waterways near the hotel froze over. A ferry went through and made a path in one area. I dropped off the rental car at the Arlanda airport in Stockholm and took the bus to the terminal. The business class lounge didn’t offer much in…
Enroute to Sweden, Ja
On the way to Sweden via Amsterdam on KLM. Later this year KLM will changing the equipment from the 747-400 Combi to a 787. The 787 is a nice plane, but I still prefer the iconic 747. I snagged a seat in the upper deck. …
Dubai to London
I’m flying on British Airways this morning on my way to Lincoln, UK (via train after arriving in London). I stopped at the Dubai Mall for dinner before going to the airport as my flight didn’t leave until 0220. No passport stamp leaving the UAE since I used their egate system with my Emirates…
Qatar to UAE – the impossible turn
This used to be easy. One short direct flight. Now it involves through Kuwait or Oman. I was pleasantly surprised that the plane from Oman to Dubai was a new 737MAX. This was my first flight on a 737MAX.
Qatar visit
I’m on my way to Doha, Qatar on Qatar Airways. The business class seats are always nice. And it’s nice having a direct flight.
Departure from Florence
I had an early morning flight (06:20) which required leaving at the hotel at 04:30. It was a short taxi ride, however at the cab driver claimed he couldn’t take a credit card. I walked into the airport only to find the ATM machines non-functioning. The cab driver pulled out his credit card machine…
South Africa Trip – Day 12 [Johannesburg and departure from South Africa]
Being the departure day this was a relaxing day. A friend picked me up and we went to Nelson Mandela square in Sandton. They have a statue of him there and some fancy shopping malls. We also stopped by the Mall of Africa where I had Chicken Licken. It was very good and cheap….
South Africa Trip – Day 6 [Cape Town to Hluhluwe]
This morning we departed Cape Town on a flight to Durban (British Airways). Once we arrived there we got a snack for the long drive to the St. Lucia Estuary. I got some food at KFC as we only had 30 minutes to find food. We had one hiccup – the air conditioning…
South Africa Trip – Day 1 [Departure from Houston]
My first flight is on United. Their computer wouldn’t allow me to check in yesterday, so I didn’t get on the upgrade standby list until I arrived at the airport. By that time I was #6 on the list and it was already booked full. At least I’ll get free food and a drink on…
Short Houston visit
I’ll be visiting Houston literally for a couple of days. Arrive today via London from Oman, then off to South Africa on the 18th.
Departure from Doha, Qatar
Flying back to Houston… Immigration had a hard time finding my entry stamp. Apparently despite the fact that I have plenty of empty pages they need the exit visa near the entrance visa… so I now have a stamp on top of another stamp…. I learned what changes were made to allow laptop computers…
Departure from Houston
Recognize this view? Yes I’m on the Qatar Airways 777-300ER again. No complaints here. Good service, good seats. Direct flight. Well I wish there was beef on the menu.
