Early drive from Le Havre to Versailles. Spent the entire day at the palace. On weekends in the summer (this was the last weekend for the year) they have musical fountain shows at specific times. The Neptune fountain only operated once between 1720 and 1728. All the other fountains were operating from 1530-1700. With the number of fountains and the distance between them it is hard to see all of them. My favorites were: 1. Ballroom (by far the best) 2. Enceladus Grove and 3. Apollo’s Bath Grove. Latona’s Fountain is also very nice.
I finally saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time today. It’s quite an amazing structure. I will try to climb it tomorrow. Not sure if I will be successful or not. It seems that tickets need to be purchased quite a long time in the future to get to the 3rd level. The sign said that a lift ticket can be purchased on the 2nd level (after you climb the stairs).
I also purchased a Navigo Decouverte, which unfortunatley only works Monday-Sunday for public transportation. It was 27.15 Euros and includes the RER B train to the CDG airport (plus unlimited public transportation in Zones 1-5). Since it’s not Monday yet I had to pay 10 Euro for the RER B train from CDG to Paris. So if you plan to visit Paris, arrive on Monday, leave on Sunday.
