I landed in London today at Heathrow Terminal 2. I took the transfer bus to Terminal 4 where Oman Air is. I went through security and arrived at the gate. I told them I couldn’t continue because my business visa wasn’t ready yet… They took me off the flight and got my bag. I then retraced my steps and went through immigration… Of course then I had to explain why I was at Terminal 4 instead of Terminal 2 where I landed.
Once I retrieved my bag I took the Heathrow Express to Paddington station where my hotel is for tonight.
It was a little rainy today. I took the tube (subway) to Westminster and walked around a little. Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) is currently under renovation and no good picture can be had. See the picture below – I swear the tower is behind the scaffolding somewhere. They still have a tent over a small portion of the parliament building as well. Apparently the scaffold will be up until 2021…
I grabbed a quick lunch, walked around Westminster Abbey and over to the Garden Museum near Lambeth bridge.
I took the tube over to the Tower of London. I got a few photos of Tower Bridge.
I then took the tube to the National Gallery, which I don’t remember visiting before. They had some paintings by Rembrant, Van Gogh and Monet. It’s a large and free museum.
I went back to the hotel and then got some pizza for dinner…After dinner I investigated my route for tomorrow. I wanted to find the lifts to make the baggage handling as easy as possible. I’m going to take the 2:10 PM train to Nottingham tomorrow then connect to Lincoln. Since the train station I am leaving from tomorrow is next to Kings Cross – I went to see the platform 9 3/4, but there was a massive queue of people taking photos.
Below are photos of my hotel room. (Hilton Paddington)
