Arrived in Rio de Janeiro early… In fact I passed through customs, immigration, and an ATM, took a taxi and arrived at my hotel at 0800. The hotel room was as described and looked exactly like the picture.
To my surprise it wasn’t raining (unlike the weather forecast that called for rain for every day I am here). I collected most of what I needed for the day (except sunblock, which I wish I had searched harder for).Based on the weather I decided to take a van from Copacabana to Corcovado to see Cristo Redentor (Christ the Reedemer). While reading my travel app itit mentioned that it was possible to hike up to Cristo from the Parque Lage. Instead of taking the van back down to Copacabana I decided to hike down. Other than one choke point on the trail where there was a very large group hiking up it was pretty much no problem.
From there I took an uber to Sugarloaf. After riding the cable cars up I could see a thunderstorm in the distance, but it never threatened us.
I took a public bus back to the hotel, got a little food and some more cash from the ATM.
