This morning I drove up to the top of Waimea Canyon. Unfortunately just like last year the top was covered in clouds and the view was totally obscured.

On the way down I flew my drone over part of the canyon (the part that isn’t inside the state park). I got a couple of nice photos, but it was threatening to rain and the drone isn’t waterproof.

I drove into town to eat lunch at Porky’s like I did last year. I met the owner of the restaurant. He’s from Utah and only returned to the island 3 days ago. He said they were closed since March and his entire staff quit as soon as he said he was going to reopen.
I drove across the street to L&L Hawaiian Barbeque. It’s a large chain, but local food. I ordered the Kalua pork with cabbage and lua lua pork combination plate. It was very good, I enjoyed the Kalua pork with cabbage much more than I expected.

I drove back up the canyon road a couple of miles to fly a little more since it stopped raining (at least there, I could see rain in the distance).
I drove back down into Waimea and got a shaved ice from JoJo’s. It was very good, the syrup wasn’t too sweet and the macadamia nut ice cream was great. I ordered the locals south shore.

I stopped at the Menehune ditch and swinging bridge briefly. I walked across the bridge – it isn’t something for people afraid of heights even though it isn’t very high. As you walk across the bridge it literally sways back and forth.

I drove back to Poipu beach to snorkel some more. Poipu beach is a really nice, clear and safe place to snorkel. I’m sure there are other beaches, but this one is very protected from the waves.

For dinner I stumbled upon a place called “Mark’s Place”. It is literally in the middle of a dark residential area, but it was very popular with the locals. I ordered Mark’s Famous Mixed Plate with Chicken Katsu, Teriyaki Beef, and Beef Stew. It was delicious.
