This morning started with a trip to the airport. Luckily it was only a 5 minute drive from the resort.
I paid for bags and I flew for free… well the ticket on Southwest was only $39, which is about what other airlines charge for a single bag. The check in process was fast, although TSA was not. There was no line, but I think they were trying to use their own x-ray vision to check the bags because they stared at the screen for about 5 minutes for each bag.

The flight was mostly empty and most people grabbed the seats near the front, but I went straight for the business class section (exit row). It never fails, no one ever goes to the exit row.

I got an excellent view of both Kaua`i and Oahu on the flight.I even got to see Pearl Harbor.

There was an excessively long walk to the baggage claim area. The whole airport was deserted. However the Southwest gates were decorated nicely for Halloween.

I was able to snag an Alamo shuttle quickly (unlike last year where I had to wait for 3 shuttles). I got a 2 door open air Jeep. There isn’t much baggage room, but there was enough.

I checked into the resort – Club Wyndham at Waikiki Beach Walk. It has a very nice pool area with orchids and tiki torches. I was lucky to get a corner room with an ocean view on the 10th floor.

I walked to Duke’s for lunch. It is at the Outrigger on the Waikiki beach with a view of Diamond Head. For the starter I had Ahi Poke tacos. Then I tried the rib and chicken plate (huli huli chicken). The food was excellent. I tried the Hula Pie, which is a large wave shaped section of macadamia nut ice cream covered in hot fudge and whipped cream.

I walked along the beach a little after dinner, but the skies were threatening so I walked back the the resort. I made it just before the skies opened up.

On the way back I stumbled upon a place I found in Hong Kong that had a Michelin star….

After a little break I drove to the local Walmart for supplies (water, gatorade, bread, beer, etc.)

After returning from Walmart i decided to stroll down Waikiki to watch all the crazy people in costumes. Some people even had chainsaws (I assume the teeth were removed).
