I started the morning with the same continental breakfast as yesterday.

When I left the hotel there was a Korean festival in Union Square. There wasn’t any performances happening on the stage while I was there, but did manage to see some performers rehearsing on the side.
I took the subway to the southernmost part of Manhattan to take the Staten Island Ferry. The Ferry is free (no metrocard required) and passes by the Statue of Liberty. Plus you get a wonderful view of the Manhattan skyline.

After the ferry ride I stumbled upon a carousel called ‘SEAGLASS”. Normally I would be too old for something like this, but it was quite unique and only $5 – which is very inexpensive for New York City.

After the short ride I continued to walk around Battery Park, partly to find where to find the security building for tomorrow’s visit to the Statue of Liberty was. While at the park I found an eagle sculpture.

I walked a few blocks north to the World Trade Center and walked around the memorial fountains. I haven’t been in New York City since 2002 when it was just a hole in the ground.
Here’s what it looked like in 2002 (September).

I walked to the Oculus which is across from the 9/11 Museum. The shape is similar to the façade of the fallen towers.
I took the subway to Chinatown and got some lunch at a place with roasted duck and pork ribs. It was pretty good.

I got some cream puffs from a store next door. They had one kind with the purple sweet potato filling.
I walked around Chinatown and found a really nice painted street.
Practically across the street from Chinatown is Little Italy. I walked through Little Italy, but it wasn’t as interesting as Chinatown.
I continued walking north up to Washington Square Park and finally took the subway back to the hotel.

I decided to talk a walk up Broadway Street to see the Flat Iron building, but it was covered by scaffold. Eventually I walked to Macy’s on 34th Street and found a wooden escalator. I took the subway from 42nd Street back to the hotel.

For dinner I had some of the leftover BBQ Pork ribs from lunch and another slice of Joe’s Pizza.
