The island is a bit small and the list of things to do can get short. I submitted a booking to Island Helicopters (and called them a couple of days ago), but didn’t get a call back yet this morning.
I decided to visit the Kaua`i Museum this morning.
The museum had a two hour guided tour available, but I decided to visit at my own pace. It had a large amount of details of the history of Kaua`i, as well some of the more modern history – like the sugar cane plantations, surfing and WWII.

After the museum I had lunch at Oki’s box lunches. I had the teryaki pork. It was pretty good.

I had made reservations for the Kīlauea Point Lighthouse for 3 PM, so that was my next stop. I still had my National Park pass from last year so I was able to save the $10 admission fee.

Kilauea Point Natural History Association is a nonprofit which supports the Kauai National Wildlife Refuges located at Kilauea Point, Hanalei & Huleia.
The view from the lighthouse was quite amazing, I even saw a helicopter take off from a small rocky island behind the lighthouse. There were a large colony of red footed boobies on the hill near the lighthouse. I could see them with my binoculars, but I couldn’t really make out their blue bills or red feet.
My phone signal was very spotty in the area (and on the island in general). By some stroke of luck I actually had signal when Island Helicopters called me. They told me that they had a cancellation for tomorrow at 3:45 PM and I could book the seats if I wanted. I decided to jump on it and take the chance on the weather. They have been running a huge discount – only $180 per person instead of $300+.

I made a quick reconnaissance visit to Lydgate Park which supposedly was good for snorkeling. In fact it had a couple of small pools completely enclosed by rocks to break the waves making it probably the safest place I have ever seen to snorkel.

For dinner I ate at a wonderful restaurant called Hukilau Lanai. The food was amazing. I had the Caesar Salad and Filet Mignon. If you have the money (it wasn’t cheap) I highly recommend it. The website advertised live music, but they didn’t have any live music.
