This morning I took the direct United flight UA 253 from Houston to Hawai’i….

After checking in and going through security at terminal C, I got a text message saying the gate had changed to E5…. not a slight change. This required a significant amount of walking and a train to change between terminals.
Eventually the flight left…. 15 minutes late, but arrived nearly on time. Not surprisingly for United – an 8 hour flight only included food for purchase. They did give me a free stroopwaffel.

After landing and retrieving the luggage I had to wait for 3 Alamo buses before I could get my rental car.
The rental car is a simple Toyota Corolla. It will be good enough for a couple of days.
I drove and checked into the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club…. they originally gave me room 10305 on the third floor. The reservation was for an ocean view balcony – but as you can see it was more of a pool and tree view. I might have been able to see a small speck of ocean.

After going back down to ask for a room with an ocean view they gave me room 10823 on the 3rd floor. It is recessed a bit, but has a large ocean view.

I enjoyed the sunset from the beach then went out to dinner.
By chance I happened to find a place nearby called “Plantation Tavern”. The food was amazing…. it was a place you would expect Anthony Bordain to visit. The tuna in the poke nachos melted in my mouth.

After dinner it was time to finally get some rest.
