The drive from Houston to New Orleans was mostly uneventful. I first stopped for lunch at Prejean’s in Lafayette. I couldn’t wait to get some real gumbo for the first time in years.
Once I arrived in New Orleans I found driving near my hotel near impossible. Next time I’ll stay next to the French Quarter, but not in it. I am staying at the Four Points by Sheraton on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. I walked down to the Mississippi River and Jackson square.
They still have streetcars in New Orleans, this particular line opened in 1988.
I wandered around the French Quarter while waiting for the fireworks on the river – it is the 4th of July. Eventually I found a good place to eat – I had red beans with rice. The po-boy was also fantastic, I always enjoy good bread.
The best part was that I could take the beer to go and drink it on the street. Finally it was dark and watched the fireworks on the river, it was a very good place to watch fireworks.
