Videos recorded during one of my best trips ever while cruising on the UnCruise Adventures Wilderness Explorer (or while exploring pre/post cruise)
Today’s adventure included the first Starbucks, a Japanese Garden and a ride on the Great Wheel. Oh and I flew back from Seattle to Austin.
Today I explored Seattle via light rail and took a ferry to Bremerton and back. It doesn’t sound like much, but it was still a full day. Plus I flew my drone at night to capture the skyline of Seattle at night.
An early departure from Juneau and a full day in Seattle. I visited Chihuly Gardens and Glass as well as the Space Needle for sunset.
A long and busy day. The highlight of the day was visiting Mendenhall Glacier and hiking to nugget falls. Another awesome meal at Deckhand Dave’s and finally a scenic walk around Juneau before packing.
Disembarkation from the cruise. The trip isn’t ending, just yet. Today I went up the Mt Roberts tramway and took a helicopter flight and landed on a glacier. I also got to watch the ships leave the port in the evening.
In the morning we visited Fords Terror, saw a couple of brown bears (momma and baby), I took the polar plunge and then we cruised to Dawes Glacier at the end of Endicott Arm. We saw a bunch of seals hitching a ride on the chunks of ice and the ice itself came in interesting shapes. At the end of the day we enjoyed being anchored at a beautiful location called Wood Spit.
Today the weather tricked us into believing we might have a gloomy day at Sandborn, but the weather quickly improved. A zodiac tour in the morning and kayaking in the afternoon with a lot of wildlife sightings and a most scenic sunset.
A wonderful morning in LeConte Bay among huge floating chunks of ice and a wonderful afternoon in Thomas Bay with a short hike up to see a waterfall. Whales were spotted yet again this evening.
Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My…. Well, not really but today I did get to see a lot of wildlife, both in and out of the water. In the morning I actually snorkeled and in the afternoon we got to see an otter, harbor seals, a sea lion, eagles, whale and even a one eyed mink….Later the ship went through the Wrangell Narrows.
A day at Yes Bay…. I kayaked in the morning, saw a brown bear on the afternoon skiff tour and even saw whales…
Scenic cruising through Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness and kayaking in Walker Cove.
Officially the first day of the cruise. I started the day with light trinket shopping, repacking my luggage and checking out of the Gilmore Hotel. I dropped off my luggage at the hospitality location and ate king crab legs for lunch. Before boarding the ship a quick briefing told us that we weren’t going to follow a set itinerary…. which I actually had expected since I had spoken to an UnCruise representative the day before leaving…..
A busy day exploring Ketchikan… Saxman totem park, Tongass Historical Museum and more.
I woke up accidentally a couple of times during the night, once at 2:45AM and although it wasn’t bright it wasn’t dark either. It was slightly brighter than a full moon. I also woke up at 4:42AM and it was pretty much full daylight at that time. The only thing was the mountain in the…
The adventure officially started today. I flew from Austin to Ketchikan, Alaska and started the exploration of the town. I took advantage of the long daylight hours and walked around the entire downtown area of Ketchikan, even taking in a rainbow from the top of Edmonds Street.
Time to check in for the flights to Alaska and drive to Austin for the evening to allow for some sleep before getting on a very early flight tomorrow morning.
